Skating has fallen behind the international level we are used to. It has been neglected as part of the essential tools of a hockey player and we see the results. My name is Reijo Ruotsalainen and I want to bring my years of knowledge and experience to all players and help them develop to their fullest potential. In many countries, there has been much potential in hockey players lost because of premature skill assessment. Skating is seen as something that cannot be trained. Other countries have put the hard work into developing this skill and are reaping the rewards.

At Rexi Professional Skating Oy we offer a comprehensive skating assessment and development package for young athletes as well as aspiring and current professionals. Often the individual is overlooked in the team-training culture, but we can change that by providing a service that allows personally tailored skating instruction exactly where it is needed.

Hockey has changed over the recent years as more and more of the 5-man squad is responsible for the defense. The game has become faster but individual skill is less outstanding. Over time, playing as a 5-man unit erodes the individual skills and understanding of one’s own tactical understanding of the game. Tactical and strategic actions become limited. These fundamental skills must be looked after on an individual level.

  • Body contact and positioning

Camps are available for different levels of players ranging from youth to professional, and on request, individual follow-up can be arranged. These focus on the development and up-keep of personal game sense and skills. Generally the camps take place during the summer.

My name is Reijo Ruotsalainen, After 23+ years of playing professional hockey and winning two Stanley Cups (Oilers 87, 90), I have been coaching for the past fourteen years, sharing my hockey skills in different countries (U.S.A, Finland, Germany, Austria). Most recently, I have been serving as Co-Coach in the German Hockey League.

Hockey has been a big part of my life. My father was also hockey player and coach. He was well respected in the Finnish Elite League and served as the National Team coach for a period. We both believe in the principles of honest and hard work. My strongest quality is teaching and knowledge of the game. I am able to easily communicate with players from their standpoint as I have been a lifelong player myself and have received feedback that confirms this.
